Every first post is supposed to be "Hello World" right? Anyway this blog is for my "Incorporating Technology in to the Classroom" class. This isn't the exact name but it gets the point across. I can think of a few other names for it to include "Getting Technology Into Me" and "Learning enough Technology to Catch up to the Students." The latter title is what I really feel we are doing and thus will be the focus of this blog.
There is almost a generation between me and the students I will be responsible for developing in to Adults. While I have used a large portion of my time learning technology as it comes out, my students have just grown up with it. At first analysis one would think that would make everyone of them proficient at all types, but this does not turn out the case. Plenty of students couldn't write one line of html code or even manipulate their Facebook privacy settings. So how did almost 15 years of technological advances change the development of kids into adults?
I believe the answer to this is that they have been immersed in the advances, and can use them to meet their needs, but have no understanding of the power and consequences of their actions. They post pictures from a Friday night party so their friends can see them and the next thing they know, they can't get a job 5 years later because their prospective employer just typed their name into Google and decided that they must be a party animal and thus not a good fit for his company.
With the help of this Class I hope to gain a greater understanding of the Technology that is out there so I can better educate my students in not only Physics but also life.
Instead of "Hello World" it's more like "Hello Classmates" :))
